Scottish Evangelism in Bendigo
Members of Bendigo (St John’s) and Bendigo South East (Reforming) pooled their talents and energies to once again set up a stall and be a Christian witness at the “Scots Day Out” (SDO) celebrations held in Bendigo in February.
The weather was very hot, and the team were kept busy with a fairly constant flow of people who were offered free scotch biscuits and a leaflet which contained a brief history of the Presbyterian Church in Victoria (with special reference to Bendigo), a brief summary of the gospel and contact details for the three Presbyterian Churches in our city.
This year was had a new highlight in our approach. It was a quiz, written by Rev John Sutherland, called “How well do you know Scotland?” The quiz drew lots of interest and those who wanted to complete it often did so within our own tent (in the shade) and some good conversations followed. In the end, the average mark for the quiz was merely a bare ‘pass’ and this included people from Scotland here for holidays!
We are very grateful for the opportunity to be involved in the Bendigo SDO and give thanks to God for the opportunities we had to share his wonderful gospel by word and by deed with those who came to join in the celebrations.
